VARIOUS ARTICLES THAT CAUGHT OUR INTEREST

Three interesting articles have recently been published, and here are some insights:

ARTICLE 1

Newlands Rugby Stadium is now officially back on the market

After two sales have fallen through, the rugby union is back pedalling, and they have now voted and agreed to sell the stadium.

They have mounting debts owing to Investec and Remgro which they probably can't pay back unless they sell the stadium, which is in a prime area.

It will probably be rezones and developed as a "mixed-use" development, i.e. a combination of homes and retail.

There is lots of interest in the property, and sealed bids from investors are being entertained. It is expected to sell for a high price.

We all loved going to Newlands to watch rugby matches, but this sale (and probably demolition) seems like a certainty now.

ARTICLE 2

Would you live in a one-bedroomed Church for R 5.5M?

There is an old church built in 1857 for sale in Newlands.

The parish, who outgrew the church and built another one sometime ago, is now selling this property.

It is apparently a national monument!

So if you are looking for a historic property that is unique (and you have R5.5M), this could be an option for you!

ARTICLE 3

"Eskom-warns-of-101-days-of-load-shedding-this-winter-in-extreme-case"

Are these just "scare tactics", or is there some truth to it?

There have been 17 days of load shedding so far in 2022.

We had about 50 in 2021.

The article suggests that in the coming winter we could experience anywhere between 37 and 101 days of loadshedding.

That is just terrifying!

We need to think about alternative power sources as a backup to Eskom, so keep an eye out for next week's article, which will be about the benefits versus approximate costs of solar versus UPS and battery back-up.
